Cross the canyon on the famous suspension bridge and ride up Vancouver's Peak to see the city, ocean and mountains all at once.
Twenty minutes separate downtown Vancouver from a temperate rainforest with trees over a hundred years old. That contrast is what makes Capilano Suspension Bridge Park the most photographed tour in the region — and Grouse Mountain the best viewpoint in the Lower Mainland.
The bridge stretches 137 metres and sways seventy metres above the Capilano River. Even those afraid of heights usually cross just fine: the handrails are tall, the deck is sturdy, and you can take it slow. On the other side, the Treetops Adventure links seven old-growth trees via suspended walkways, and the Cliffwalk skirts the canyon wall on a glass-and-steel structure.
From there we ride the gondola up Grouse Mountain. On clear days the view stretches to the Vancouver skyline, Vancouver Island and, in the distance, Mount Baker in Washington State. Summer brings lumberjack shows and the resident grizzly bears; winter brings snow and an outdoor skating rink.
We leave early to reach Capilano before the tour buses arrive. A thirty-minute drive crossing the Lions Gate Bridge, with views of Stanley Park and the harbour.
About two hours at the park. We cross the bridge, walk the Treetops Adventure through the canopy, and the Cliffwalk along the canyon wall. There are also short, flat trails for those who prefer to stay grounded.
A quick stop at the dam that created Capilano Lake. It's one of the region's most beautiful and least-known views, with the Lions peaks framed behind the water.
Ride up on the Skyride, the largest aerial tramway in North America. At the top: a panoramic lookout, the grizzly bear refuge, the Eye of the Wind, and in summer the lumberjack show.
Lunch on your own at Altitudes Bistro, with windows overlooking the entire city. There are also quick bites at the chalet for those who prefer something simple.
We ride the gondola back down and return to your hotel between 3 and 3:30 pm. If the group wants to extend the day, we can add a stop at Lonsdale Quay on the way back.
